29

No, this is not my blog entry's number; nor it is not Beckham or Micheal Jordan's shirt number(they were 23!); today is not the 29th day of the month, so what would you think I can write about the number 29? Clue: No mathematics here today.

For those who are close to me, for those who has been keeping track of my Personal Message, you would read my mind correctly this time. Yes, my 29th tooth is growing, finally.

If you are not sure about how many teeth a normal person has, take a mirror and start counting your own's.

So what is this 29th tooth? It is called wisdom tooth. A 'normal' adult will have 4 wisdom teeth. They normally appear when you are between 16 to 24 years old. Well a quite detail information about wisdom teeth has already posted by my dearest mui-Jeen in her blog. I will talk about some other interesting facts about it here then.

Ever wonder how the word 'wisdom tooth' comes from? There are a few etymologies about it. In general, it is named 'wisdom' because it appears so late than the other teeth, at the age where people are wiser than a child. However, according to a Dutch folk etymology, wisdom tooth is called verstandskies in Dutch word and it is derived from "far-standing" (ver-stand) molar. Due to translation error, the Dutch word ver-stand is mistranslated to wisdom in English because they sound alike.

In some other country, wisdom tooth has his own unique name.

Turkish - 20 yaş dişi (20th year tooth)

Arabic - Ders-al-a'qel (the tooth of the mind)

Korean - Sa-rang-nee (love tooth)

Japanese - Oyashirazu (unknown to the parents)

Thai - fan-khut (huddling tooth)

Guess my 1st wisdom tooth is still a baby now as I can't feel any pain like what other people has described. Since this is my first wisdom tooth after a long wait (I am 22 now!), I was so excited that I have done a 'survey' with a few close friends of mine on the number of teeth they've got. Here's the results!

Jeen - 27

Reason: 4 teeth were removed for braces due to the lack of space in her tiny mouth. Sadly, once she has removed the teeth, 3 wisdom teeth pop up and replace the 'empty' space in the same time. So total 27.

Shien - 27

Reason: No teeth were removed. But why only 27? Only 27 teeth were born in her mouth, guess it is about genetic. Her dad's too!

Kay - 28

Reason: Perfect teeth (Ofcourse, she is a model. She simply can't has a tooth more or less) =p

Welcome to the world, my dear 29th tooth. Hope you wouldn't cost me too much of pain later. Off I go. =)
